Doubtful to rest players in IPL: Rohit Sharma
Many Indian players get injured frequently. Due to this sometimes it becomes impossible to play for India. IPL starts next week. After the IPL, India will participate in the final round of the World Test Championship. Will this give the Indian players enough rest, or are they going to get even more tired playing in the IPL? Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has answered this question in the mind of the fans.
Speaking to the media after the ODI series against Australia, Rohit Sharma said about the workload management of the players: Now everything is the responsibility of the IPL team managements. The players will be under their control. So, we have provided some suggestions and guidelines for IPL teams. But ultimately it is up to the managements of the respective teams to take the decision. Importantly, players should take care of their bodies. They are not children. If they feel a bit overburdened, they should talk to the appropriate team management and take a break for a couple of games. But I doubt that will happen.”
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer is doubtful for the first half of the IPL due to injury. Pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Prasith Krishna are recovering from injuries for a long time. Commenting on the list of injured players, Rohit Sharma said, “It is a problem. We are constantly losing players who are playing in the Indian team. But really, everyone is trying to do what they can to get back to normal.
We also focus a lot on player workload management. Because of this, certain players are rested at certain times. It is normal to get injured after playing a lot of cricket. So, don’t delve too deeply into it. Even if we only focus on the things that are within our control. Even the players are frustrated. They also don’t want to take a break from the game. It is unfortunate, but ultimately there is nothing we can do.
In the background, I can see the hard laborers working alongside these players. Even so, sometimes injuries occur in strange ways. Shreyas is the best example of this. He did nothing for a whole day and went to practice. He is injured. So, there is nothing we can do about it. We only have to consider the workload of the players. That is all we can do. We are working on it from our side,” said Rohit Sharma.Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will clash in the first match of the IPL starting March 31 in Ahmedabad.
